PLC-Link.NET for Omron – Robust, high-speed PLC integration
We have developed a .NET communications library to allow direct access to Omron PLC memory with minimal latencies. It has been developed from the ground up to feel like a natural extension of the .NET Framework, while still providing significant performance and stability boosts over such technologies as OPC. On one project that required complex messaging between a PLC and PC-based controller, this allowed us to reduce message response times from the order of 100s of milliseconds (over OPC) to the order of 10s of milliseconds. This technology is an example of the kind of tight integration we can provide for our clients to maximize throughput and efficiency, while leveraging our expertise in architectural design to minimize integration time and future software maintenance costs.

In developing software for numerous and varied projects over the years, we have encountered and identified common challenges that nearly all of our clients face. Chief among these is the challenge of scheduling software integration and test time amid unexpected material delays and process requirement changes. Further, once tools are actively in production in the field, tool time is at even more of a premium. Having recognized these challenges, Positronics has developed an extensible platform for the modeling of our clients machines, including powerful emulation tools to exercise the logical pathways in real process code, rather than relying on special case simulation logic that can so often bypass problems in the real process logic. The NRE associated with developing the project-specific simulation more than pays for itself in long-term maintenance savings and the critical return on investment from the end-user receiving a high-quality, on-time product.
